Nicotine polacrilex

Nicotine polacrilex is a form of nicotine that is bound to an ion-exchange resin, such as polymethacrylic acid (examples include Amberlite IRP64, Purolite C115HMR, or Doshion P551). This compound is primarily used in nicotine replacement therapy products like gum and hard lozenges, notably in the Nicorette product range, to aid in smoking cessation. The polymer delivery system is designed to maximize the release and absorption of nicotine through the oral mucosa, with 80 to 90 percent of the nicotine from the gum being absorbed by the mouth. However, users may experience side effects such as bad taste, nausea, dyspepsia, and stomatitis.
